about

Composed entirely of processed sounds of and from an Eric Dolphy cassette tape, this track pays homage to the brilliant multi-instrumentalist Eric Dolphy. Every sound on this piece was created with the limitation and caveat that it must emerge from the “instrument” of an Eric Dolphy cassette. Dolphy was renowned for how he could pull highly original sounds out of the instruments he played: soprano and bass clarinet, flute, alto and baritone saxophone and probably many more instruments that he had virtually mastered. While this track in no way achieves or attempts to achieve the virtuosity characteristic of Dolphy’s oeuvre, it is inspired by the exploratory and experimental impulse that drove his music.
