about

In a manner at least partially related to the previous track, this piece attempts to refashion the sentimental identifications that inhere to narrative representations of black voice as it becomes the surface of over-identification and, at times, violent empathy. In this regard the lyrics of a perhaps very familiar voice—probably one of hip-hop’s most sampled—is stretched into different non-lyrical sounds, none of which approach a proper word, yet gesture towards words, sentences, expressions, cries. This track wonders what forms can arise through non-narrative and, perhaps non-sentimental affiliations with black voice.
